Mandatory death
di Claudio Giusti*

Does Bryan Nichols deserve to die?

Of course he must!

He demonstrated, killing four people in a Georgia tribunal, that death penalty is not a deterrent: as well he did not committed suicide after his crime (as usual in these cases).

So Georgia decided to spend a lot of money to have him hanged. Four years and ten millions dollars later, the jury decided in a different way and Nichols got life.

Quite every Georgian politician went bananas about this. Now they want an almost mandatory death penalty, so they ask for non unanimously sentences (and, why not, verdicts too).

But, if Nichols must die in any case, why spent such a big money and such a big time?

Why do not kill him on the spot?
